Located in downtown Fredericksburg, the Pioneer Museum spans 3.5 acres shaded by large pecan trees. The site preserves the history of German immigrants who settled in the Texas Hill Country during the mid-1840s. Visitors can explore ten historic structures, including a one-room schoolhouse, a log cabin, a Sunday house, and a smokehouse. The grounds also feature the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department Museum, which displays early twentieth-century firefighting equipment.
Much of the Pioneer Museum experience is outdoors. Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended. Umbrellas and hand fans are available for guests.
